PHILADELPHIA DOCTORATE COURSE, FINAL 16 LECTURES
- PART 18 OF 18

Brought to you by:
FreeZone Bible Association of Scandinavia

*Please see Part 00 for the Introduction & Contents

===================================================

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Our purpose is to promote religious freedom and the Scientology
Religion by spreading the Scientology Tech across the internet.

The Cof$ abusively suppresses the practice and use of
Scientology Tech by FreeZone Scientologists. It misuses the
copyright laws as part of its suppression of religious freedom.

They think that all freezoners are "squirrels" who should be
stamped out as heretics. By their standards, all Christians,
Moslems, Mormons, and even non-Hassidic Jews would be considered
to be squirrels of the Jewish Religion.

The writings of LRH form our Old Testament just as the writings
of Judaism form the Old Testament of Christianity.

We might not be good and obedient Scientologists according
to the definitions of the Cof$ whom we are in protest against.

But even though the Christians are not good and obedient Jews,
the rules of religious freedom allow them to have their old
testament regardless of any Jewish opinion.

We ask for the same rights, namely to practice our religion
as we see fit and to have access to our holy scriptures
without fear of the Cof$ copyright terrorists.

We ask for others to help in our fight. Even if you do
not believe in Scientology or the Scientology Tech, we hope
that you do believe in religious freedom and will choose
to aid us for that reason.

Thank You,

The FZ Bible Association

GLOSSARY FOR PDC TAPES 67 - 76 (VOL8)

ABERRATION: a departure from rational thought or behavior.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT: something said or done to inform another that his
statement or action has been noted, understood and received. Very
good, okay, and other such phrases are intended to inform another
who has spoken or acted that his statement or action has been
accepted. An acknowledgment also tends to confirm that the
statement has been made or the action has been done and so brings
about a condition not only of communication but of reality
between two or more people. Abbr. ack.

ANCHOR POINTS: assigned or agreed-upon points of boundary which
are conceived to be motionless by the individual.

APPETITE OVER TIN CUP: a pioneer western U.S. term used by
riverboat men on the Missouri; it means thrown away violently,
like "head over heels," "bowled over."

ARC: a word formed from the initial letters of affinity, reality
and communication, which together equate to understanding. It is
pronounced by stating its letters, A-R-C. To Scientologists it
has come to mean good feeling, love or friendliness, such as "He
was in ARC with his friend." One does not, however, fall out of
ARC; he has an ARC break.

ASSOCIATION: see HAS.

ASSUMPTION: the act of a theta being taking over a MEST body.
This is occasionally found to be part of the record of the GE
strong enough to be audited. It is the sensation of being taken
over thoroughly, sometimes contains the shock of contact. The
Assumption takes place in most cases just prior to birth for
every GE generation.

ATTENTION UNIT: a theta energy quantity of awareness existing in
the mind in varying quantity from person to person.

AUDITING: 1. The application of Scientology processes and
procedures to someone by a trained auditor. 2. The action of
asking a preclear a question (which he can understand and
answer), getting an answer to that question and acknowledging him
for that answer. Auditing gets rid of unwanted barriers that
inhibit, stop or blunt a person's natural abilities as well as
gradiently increasing the abilities a person has so that he
becomes more able and his survival, happiness and intelligence
increase enormously. See also processing.

AUDITOR: a person trained and qualified in applying Scientology
and/or Dianetics processes and procedures to individuals for
their betterment; called an auditor because auditor means "one
who listens." An auditor is a minister of the Church of
Scientology.

AUTOMATICITY: 1. Simply making things stick and making things
automatic and making things so you don't have to watch them all
the time. 2. Non-self-determined action which ought to be
determined by the individual. The individual ought to be
determining an action and he is not determining it. That's a
pretty broad consideration. It's something not under the control
of the individual. But if we said "something not under the
control of the individual" as a total, unqualified definition of
automaticity, we would have this, then: That car that just went
down the street would be an automaticity to you. You didn't have
control of it. So this is not a precision definition. The
precision definition has "which ought to be under the control of
the individual."

AXIOMS: statements of natural laws on the order of those of the
physical sciences.

BACK-CHAT: impertinent or rude answers.

BANK: the mental image picture collection of the preclear. It
comes from computer technology where all data is in a "bank." See
also reactive mind.

BATH STREET: an invented street name used for the purpose of
illustration.

BEAM: an energy flow. Tractor beams are used to extract
perceptions from a body by a thetan. Pressor beams are used to
direct action.

BEINGNESS: the assumption or choosing of a category of identity.
Beingness is assumed by oneself or given to oneself, or is
attained. Examples of beingness would be one's own name, one's
profession, one's physical characteristics, one's role in a game
-- each and all of these things could be called one's beingness.

BITCH KITTY: a difficult or disagreeable task.

BLACK AND WHITE CONTROL PROCESSING: give the preclear a complete
E-meter assessment, using the principles of what he would create
or destroy or would not create and would not destroy. Use this
data to make mock-ups. Then have the preclear create and perceive
black spots and then white spots, black crosses and white
crosses, and move these here and there through the room or
through his own space. Turn them on and off, interchange them,
put them in yesterday, put them in tomorrow, make them get
larger, make them get smaller; each time doing as much as the
preclear can do. Each time one asks him to perceive one of his
own created illusions in terms of black and white spots or
crosses, one attempts to coax him into successful control of it.
Audit very persuasively and lightly. Drills on creating and
perceiving black and white should be continued until he can
handle each easily.

BLACK SPACE: a space containing black energy would be black, but
a black space may be a space existing only without energy in it.

BOOK ONE: Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health.

BRACKET: a bracket is the individual does it himself, somebody
else does it, others do it; or the individual does it to somebody
else, or somebody does it to him, or others do it to others. And
that's the technical definition of a bracket: Being done to the
preclear, the preclear doing it to somebody else and others doing
it to others.

BRITISH SWIFT BULLET: a .22 caliber bullet encased with a large
explosive charge so that it will move at extremely high velocity
when fired. It is designed to be used in a rifle called a Swift
220.

CANS: electrodes for the E-meter. Steel soup or vegetable cans,
unpainted, tops cleanly removed, label and glue washed off, tin
plated or not, have been standard for many years. It is with
these that calibration has been done.

CASE LEVELS I-VII: see Step I, etc.

CATAPHOBIA: an invented name for a mental disorder.

CHAPLIN, CHARLIE: 1889-1977. Motion-picture actor; achieved
worldwide renown as a comedian.

CHART OF ATTITUDES: a chart on which are plotted with the
numerical values of the emotional tone scale the gradient
attitudes that fall between the highest and lowest states of
consideration about life. Example: top -- Cause; bottom -- Full
Effect.

CHEVALIER, MAURICE: 1888-1972. French actor and singer in variety
and motion pictures.

CHRONIC SOMATIC: a recurrence, constant or periodic, of the
original physical pain, deformity or illness which has been
stored in the reactive mind as the result of an engram-type
incident

CIRCUIT: a mechanism which becomes an identity in itself, with
its own "I" which takes a piece of the analyzer, walls it off
with the charge, and thereafter dictates to the preclear. In
olden times, these were called demons.

CLEAR: 1. A being who is unrepressed and self-determined. 2. To
release all the physical pain and painful emotion from the life
of an individual.

CLEARED THETA CLEAR: a person who is able to create his own
universe, or, living in the MEST universe, is able to create at
will illusions perceivable by others, to handle MEST-universe
objects without mechanical means, and to have and feel no need of
bodies or even the MEST universe to keep himself and his friends
interested in existence.

CLOSED TERMINALS: when one begins to identify, one has "closed
terminals" too closely and believes one terminal is another
terminal.

CO-AUDITING: an abbreviation for cooperative auditing. It means a
team of any two people who are helping each other reach a better
life with Scientology processing.

COMPUTATION: technically, that aberrated evaluation and postulate
that one must be consistently in a certain state in order to
succeed. The computation thus may mean that one must entertain in
order to be alive or that one must be dignified in order to
succeed or that one must own much in order to live. A computation
is simply stated. It is always aberrated. A computation is
insidious as it pretends to align with survival. All computations
are nonsurvival. Computations are held in place wholly to
invalidate others.

COUNTEREFFORT: the force which counters one's own survival. This
force can be motionless (such as a parked car or a building
bumped or run into) or in motion (a train at a crossing, a fist,
a bullet, etc.). Countereffort is an effort for which you do not
accept responsibility.

CREATIVE PROCESSING: processing which consists of having the
preclear make, with his own creative energies, mock-ups.

CYCLE OF ACTION: the sequence that an action goes through,
wherein the action is started, is continued for as long as is
required and then is completed as planned.

DEMON CIRCUIT: a heavily charged portion of the analytical mind
which has been captured by the reactive mind and does its
bidding, walled off by charge into a separate entity.

DERRICKE RIDGWAY: publisher of an early British edition of
Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health.

DIANETICS: a system of coordinated axioms which resolve problems
concerning human behavior and psychosomatic illnesses.

DICHOTOMIES: a series of opposites: love -- hate, always --
never, right -- wrong, etc. The basic dichotomy is self-
determinism -- other-determinism.

DOAKES, JOE: any male; a man whose name is not known.

DWINDLING SPIRAL: as life progresses, more and more theta becomes
fixed as entheta and less and less theta is available to the
organism for purposes of reason. This is called the dwindling
spiral. It is so called because the more entheta there is on the
case, the more theta will be turned into entheta at each new
restimulation. It is a three-dimensional vicious circle which
carries the individual down the tone scale.

E-METER: Hubbard Electrometer. An electronic instrument for
measuring mental state and change of state in individuals as an
aid to precision and speed in auditing. The E-meter is not
intended or effective for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention
of any disease.

ENGRAM: a moment of pain and unconsciousness which has perceptic
content, which has command value on the individual, and which
when reduced brings a greater state of self-determinism to that
individual.

ENIAC: electronic numerical integrator and computer; an early
electronic computer.

enMEST: MEST, in a life form, is an orderly array above 2.0 on
the tone scale; below 2.0, MEST is considered to be confused and
enturbulated and is referred to as enMEST.

ENTHETA: theta which has been confused and chaotically mixed with
the material universe and which will lie in this confusion until
death or some other process disenturbulates it. Theta below 2.0
we call entheta.

ENTITIES: ridges on which facsimiles are planted. Each one of
those things can be a thinking entity. It thinks it's alive. It
can think as a being as long as energy is fed to it.

ERASE: to recount an engram until it has vanished entirely. If
the engram is early, if it has no material earlier which will
suspend it, that engram will erase.

EXTERIORIZATION: the state of the thetan, the individual himself,
being outside his body. When this is done, the person achieves a
certainty that he is himself and not his body.

FACSIMILE: a memory is a recording of the physical universe. It
contains -- any memory -- a time index (when it happened) and a
pattern of motion. As a lake reflects the trees and moving
clouds, so does a memory reflect the physical universe. Sight,
sound, pain, emotion, effort, conclusions and many other things
are recorded in this static for any given instant of observation.
Such a memory we call a facsimile. The mind, examining a
facsimile it has made, can see it, feel it, hear it, reexperience
the pain in it, the effort, the emotion.

FERDINAND: the title character in a children's book, The Story of
Ferdinand, by Munro Leaf. Ferdinand was a gentle bull who "liked
to sit just quietly and smell the flowers."

FIFTH INVADER: a thetan from the Fifth Invader Force believes
himself to be a very strange insectlike creature with unthinkably
horrible hands. He believes himself to be occupying such a body,
but is in actuality simply a unit capable of producing space,
time, energy and matter.

V: see Step V.

FLOW: a transfer of energy from one point to another. The energy
in a flow can have any type of wave, from the simplest to the
most complex. Flowingness is simply the characteristic of
transferringness.

IV: see Step IV.

FREUDOPHOBIA: an invented term combining the words Freud and
phobia.

FREUD, SIGMUND: 1856-1939. Austrian neurologist, founder of
psychoanalysis. Developed a method of treatment (which served as
a basis of his psychoanalysis) in which he replaced hypnosis by
free association of ideas. Believed that a complex of repressed
and forgotten impressions underlies all abnormal mental states
and that revelation of these impressions often effects a cure;
regarded infantile mental processes of particular importance in
later development; developed a theory that dreams are an
unconscious representation of repressed desires, especially of
sexual desires.

GE: see genetic entity.

GENETIC ENTITY: that beingness not dissimilar to the thetan which
has carried forward and developed the body from its earliest
moments along the evolutionary line on earth and which through
experience, necessity and natural selection has employed the
counterefforts of the environment to fashion an organism of the
type best fitted for survival, limited only by the abilities of
the genetic entity. The goal of the genetic entity is survival on
a much grosser plane of materiality. Abbr. GE.

GITA: see Give and Take Processing. (GIve and TAke Processing,
hence the GITA.)

GIVE AND TAKE PROCESSING: remedies contrasurvival abundance and
scarcity. It will be found that before one can accept a very
scarce (to him) thing, he has to give it away. A person with a
milk allergy must be able to give away, in mock-up, enormous
quantities of milk, wasting it, before he can accept any himself.

GLORIA ET PATRIA: Latin for Glory and Country.

GOLDBERG, RUBE: 1883-1970. American cartoonist and comic-strip
artist; known for cartoons of mechanical contrivances whose humor
derives from the absurdly unnecessary complexity of the
contrivances depicted.

GRADIENT: a gradual approach to something, taken step by step,
level by level, each step or level being of itself easily
surmountable, so that finally quite complicated and difficult
activities or high states of being can be achieved with relative
ease. This principle is applied to both Scientology processing
and training.

GRADIENT SCALE: a scale of condition graduated from zero to
infinity. Absolutes are considered to be unobtainable.

GREAT LODGE OF EAGLEMANIA: an invented and satirical name for a
fraternal organization.

GROUP PROCESSING: techniques, usually already codified,
administered to groups of children or adults. The group
(preclears) is usually assembled and seated in a quiet room where
they will not be disturbed by sudden noises or entrances. The
group auditor then takes his position in the front of the group
and talks to them briefly about what he is going to do and what
he expects them to do. The auditor then begins with his first
command.

HARMONICS: what's known as sympathetic vibration and is one of
the mechanisms contained in sympathy itself.

HARUN AL-RASHID: 764?-809. Most famous of all caliphs (supreme
rulers) of Baghdad; his power and influence covered all
southwestern Asia and northern Africa; made Baghdad center of
Arabic culture. Much of his splendor is the result of legends and
of his idealization among Arabs as the caliph of Arabian Nights.

HAS: Hubbard Association of Scientologists.

HAVE: by having we mean owning, possessing, taking charge of
objects, energies or spaces.

HAVE-NOT: reversal of havingness where the preclear did not want
something and had to have it, or wanted something and could not
have it, or wanted something and got something else.

HAVINGNESS: the feeling that one owns or possesses.

HUMAHILATUDE: an invented name for a quantity.

HYDE PARK: a 360-acre park in west central London, England; known
especially as a place for open-air meetings.

IMPLANT: 1. An electronic means of overwhelming the thetan with a
significance. 2. Any preclear has, in the last few thousand
years, been placed in an electronic field and rendered null, void
and obsessed by heavy electrical currents.

INTENSIVE: any one single period of 12 1/2 hours or 25 hours of
auditing delivered all within one single week or weekends on a
set schedule.

KNOWINGNESS: a capability for truth; it is not data.

LIFE CONTINUUM: somebody fails, departs or dies and the
individual then takes on the burden of this person's habits,
goals, fears and idiosyncrasies.

LIVINGNESS: going along a certain course impelled by a purpose
and with some place to arrive. It consists mostly of removing the
barriers in the channel, holding the edges firm, ignoring the
distractions and reinforcing and reimpelling one's progress along
the channel. That's life.

LOGICS: 1. Methods of thinking. 2. The Logics are separate from
the Axioms only in that, from the system of thinking so
evaluated, the Axioms themselves flow. The word Logics is used
here to mean postulates pertaining to the organizational
structure of alignment.

MA BELL: a popular name for American Telephone and Telegraph
Company.

MEST: a made-up word, meaning matter, energy, space and time, the
physical universe. All physical phenomena may be considered as
energy operating in space and time. The movement of matter or
energy in time is the measure of space. All things are MEST
except theta.

MEST universe: that agreed-upon reality of matter, energy, space
and time which we use as anchor points and through which we
communicate.

MOCK-UP: any knowingly created mental model, construction or
picture (not part of the time track). Distinct from facsimile.

MOCK-UP PROCESSING: see Creative Processing.

NEUROTIC: a neurotic is a person who has some obsession or
compulsion which overmasters his self-determinism to such a
degree that it is a social liability.

NIPPING: a practice much beloved by thetans. They send out two
energy streams, like hands, and slap both sides of a victim's
head. This mildly shocks a thetan to which it is done. It can
kill a MEST body. This slap is notable for causing ringing in the
ears. In running nips, one is running something very important,
for it is a basic on holding on to a MEST body. As in all
incidents, when you run the motivator, run the overt afterwards,
or vice versa.

NULL (NEEDLE): the needle continuing to behave in an action
uninfluenced by the auditing question.

I: see Step I.

OVERT ACT: an act of omission or commission which does the least
good for the least number of dynamics or the most harm to the
greatest number of dynamics.

PBY: a military seaplane used during World War II.

PERCEPTICS: specialized data from the standard memory or reactive
banks which represent and reproduce the sense messages of a
moment in the past. The sense messages of present time, also
(formerly the word percepts was used to mean the sense messages
of present time, but usage has dropped this distinction).

PETTY GIRL: a style of pinup popular during the thirties and
forties. The artist's name was Petty.

PLANCK, MAX: 1858-1947. German physicist; originated and
developed the quantum theory; awarded 1918 Nobel prize for
physics.

POINTS: see anchor points.

POSTULATE: 1. A statement of condition of being up to and
including the materialization of objects. 2. A self-determining
thought which stops, changes or starts a past, present or future
effort. Postulates are made and are effective on each of the
eight dynamics, and early postulates antecede later ones. If one
postulates something today and changing environments tomorrow
make today's postulates undesirable, the early postulates remain
effective unless they are recalled and reevaluated.

POSTULATE PROCESSING: that processing which addresses the
postulates, evaluations and conclusions of the preclear at the
level of self-determined thought; yet Postulate Processing has
some value when addressed to stimulus -response ideas. Postulate
Processing is the primary and highest method of processing a
thetan.

PRECLEAR: 1. A person who, through Scientology processing, is
finding out more about himself and life. 2. A spiritual being who
is now on the road to becoming clear, hence preclear.

PRETTY BOY FLOYD: Charles "Pretty Boy" Floyd, 1904-34. 1930s bank
robber.

PROCESSING: called auditing, by which the auditor (practitioner)
"listens and commands." The auditor and the preclear (person
receiving auditing) are together out-of-doors or in a quiet place
where they will not be disturbed or where they are not being
subjected to interrupting influences. The purpose of the auditor
is to give the preclear certain and exact commands which the
preclear can follow and perform. The purpose of the auditor is to
increase the ability of the preclear. The Auditor's Code is the
governing set of rules for the general activity of auditing. See
also auditing.

PSYCHOANALYTICAPHOBIA: an invented term combining the words
psychoanalysis and phobia.

PSYCHOSIS: a complete inability to assign time and space.

Qs: this is a level above the Logics and above the Axioms; the
level from which we are now viewing, which is a common
denominator to all experience which we can now view. This data,
then, these Qs, would stand behind everything else that we do.
(The Qs are published in full in Scientology 0-8, page 25.)

QUEEN MARY: a passenger liner which entered service in 1936.

RANDOMITY: 1. The ratio of unpredicted motion to predicted
motion. Something one picks out and agrees not to predict. At
very low case levels it appears that everything is randomity, but
as the case level rises it can actually reach a point where the
preclear fears that he is approaching too little randomity to
find life still interesting. 2. Randomity is "something I've
selected out of my responsibility area so I can fight it." You
have to select out randomity to get action.

RATION BOARD: a government agency responsible for planned and
restrictive allocation of scarce resources and consumer goods,
usually active only during times of war, famine or other national
emergency.

REACTIVE MIND: that portion of a person's mind which works on a
stimulus-response basis (given a certain stimulus, it gives a
certain response), which is not under his volitional control and
which exerts force and the power of command over his awareness,
purposes, thoughts, body and actions.

RESTIMULATION: the reactivation of an existing incident, where
the perceptics of the engram are approximated by those of the
present-time environment.

RIDGE: 1. "Solid" accumulations of energy which are suspended in
space and time. Ridges can be handled variously. They can also
explode. 2. A ridge is caused by two energy flows coinciding and
causing an enturbulence of energy which, on examination, is found
to take on a characteristic which in energy flows is very like
matter, having its particles in chaotic mixture.

RIDGE RUNNING: ask the preclear to give himself a command to
walk. Let him locate the white flow line which results inside his
head. When this line goes dark, have him locate the tiny ridge
inside the skull that stopped it. Have him run the flow from this
barrier (these barriers, they are tiny ridges and each has a
thought with it such as "Can't walk" or "Too bored to walk") back
toward the spot where he told himself to walk. It will run white
for a moment, then go black. Have him give himself the command to
walk again and "watch" this flow line. It may run through two or
three tiny barriers and then stop. Again have him run the
"objection" to walking. Have him watch this "objection" flow
until it goes black. Then have him give himself the command to
walk again and so on and so on. He will wind up at some outside
point. Now have him give himself the command Listen and have him
run this and its back flows on "black and white" until he is
exterior on the subject of listen. Then use the command Talk
similarly. Then the command Nod, then the command Move, etc. Give
Look last for it may "blind" his perception of black and white.
He may each time get out to a distance in another quarter.

ROODYBILE: an invented name for an automobile.

SCIENTOLOGY: 1. Formed from the Latin word scio, which means
"know" or "distinguish," being related to the word scindo, which
means "cleave." (Thus, the idea of differentiation is strongly
implied.) It is formed from the Greek word logos, which means
"the word" or "outward form by which the inward thought is
expressed and made known"; also "the inward thought" or "reason
itself." Thus, Scientology means knowing

ABOUT KNOWING, OR SCIENCE OF KNOWLEDGE. 2. The science of knowing
how to know. It is the science of knowing sciences. It seeks to
embrace the sciences and humanities as a clarification of
knowledge itself. Into all these things -- biology, physics,
psychology and life itself -- the skills of Scientology can bring
order and simplification.

SERVICE FACSIMILE: a definitely nonsurvival situation contained
in a facsimile which is called into action by the individual to
explain his failures. A service facsimile may be one of an
illness, an injury, an inability. The facsimile begins with a
down emotional curve and ends with an upward emotional curve.
Between these it has pain. A service facsimile is the pattern
which is the chronic "psychosomatic illness." It may contain
coughs, fever, aches, rashes, any manifestation of a nonsurvival
character, mental or physical. It may even be a suicide effort.
It is complete with all perceptions. It has many similar
facsimiles. It has many locks. The possession and use of a
service facsimile distinguishes a Homo sapiens.

VII: see Step VII.

VI: see Step VI.

SIX SECTIONAL PARTS OF THE BODY: the center (forehead and down),
the right inside (from the edge of the jaw halfway out to the
shoulder), the right outside (from halfway to the shoulder to the
point of the shoulder), the left inside (opposite from the right
inside), the left outside (opposite from the right outside), and
the stomach entity (located in the area of the solar plexus).

SOMATIC: any body condition experienced when contacting an
engram; also, the pain of a psychosomatic illness. See also
chronic somatic.

SPACATION: 1. A process having to do with the rehabilitation of
the creation of space. 2. The subject of space. And we call the
process Spacation, and spacation would be the subject of space.

SPACE OPERA: a novel, motion picture, radio or television play,
or comic strip usually of a stock type featuring interplanetary
travel, beings of outer space often in conflict with the people
of earth and other similar science-fiction themes.

STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE: a sequence of steps to be taken by
the auditor for the resolution of all cases.

STEP I: you say, "Be a couple of feet back of your head" (in some
cases you can ask a preclear to be where he wants to be, and he
will be someplace else) and he's out of his body. That's what
we're essentially trying to do, and then we can handle him from
there.

STEP II: Orientation. You can just lump under Step II anything
you know about orientation.

STEP III: Spacation.

STEP IV: GITA.

STEP V: Black and White Control Processing. The definition of a
Case V is "no mock-ups, only blackness."

STEP VI: ARC Straightwire. This level is the neurotic level. It
is identified by the preclear having mock-ups which will not
persist or which won't go away.

STEP VII: psychotic cases. Give case space and freedom where
possible. Have psychotic imitate (not mock up) various things.
Have him do Present Time Differentiation. Get him to tell the
difference between things by actual touch. Have him locate,
differentiate and touch things that are really real to him (real
objects or items). If inaccessible, mimic him with own body,
whatever he does, until he comes into communication. Have him
locate corners of the room and hold them without thinking. He is
psychotic because viewpoints in present time are so scarce that
he has gone into the past for viewpoints which at least he knew
existed.

STRAIGHTWIRE: straight memory is also called straightwire. It is
so called because the auditor is directing the memory of the
preclear and in doing so is stringing wire, much on the order of
a telephone line, between "I" and the standard memory bank,
plowing through all occlusions and circuits.

TECHNIQUE 80: the "to be or not to be" technique which balances
out the motivator, the overt act and the DED. It's the anatomy of
maybe. It becomes an entire subject of how to take apart maybe:
how to get an indecision, how to get an involved, grouped series
of incidents apart. Any method which does this falls under the
category of Technique 80.

THETA: in Scientology, the static of life itself is called theta,
and is designated by the eighth letter of the Greek alphabet, 6.
In other ologies it has various names -- soul, spirit, ego, etc.
-- and varying degrees and purposes for animating matter. Theta,
although its purpose is to conquer the physical universe, is not
subject to the laws of the physical universe; it is concerned
wholly with motion, yet has no motion, being a true static
without space or time. Theta and thought are similar orders of
static; thought, which is concerned wholly with the estimation of
effort, manifests through the facsimiles of physical universe
entities or actions which have been collected and stored by the
mind.

THETA CLEAR: a being who is reasonably stable outside the body
and does not come back into the body simply because the body is
hurt. No other condition necessary.

THETA CLEARING: to create a theta clear, it is only necessary to
bring the being up to a point where it can leave and return upon
a MEST body.

THETA-MEST THEORY: the idea that there was a universe and that
there was thought -- theta without wavelength, without mass,
without time, without position in space: this was life. And that
was impinged upon something else called the physical universe,
which was a mechanical entity which did things in a peculiar way,
and these two things together, theta-MEST interacting, gave us
life forms.

THETAN: the personality and beingness which actually is the
individual and is aware of being aware and is ordinarily and
normally the "person" and who the individual thinks he is. The
thetan is immortal and is possessed of capabilities well in
excess of those hitherto predicted for man.

THETAN EXTERIOR: a thetan who is clear of the body and knows it
but is not yet stable outside.

III: see Step Ill.

TIME TRACK: the entire sequence of "now" incidents, complete with
all perceptics, picked up by a person during his whole existence.
Actually, an organism's time track goes back before time to the
moment he decided to be as a monocell and progresses through all
the millennia of evolution to this immediate instant. This life's
time track begins at the first moment of recording and ends with
the abandonment by the thetan of the MEST organism.

TONE SCALE: an arbitrary scale of figures given to indicate an
organism's desire and ability to survive. This scale starts at
0.0, which is apathy or death, and advances steadily to 20.0,
which is survival, or ability to carry out completely the
organism's goal of helping theta in its conquest of the physical
universe. Below 2.2 one is operating in the effort band and has
decided not to survive. From 2.2 to 4.0 one is surviving, but on
degrees of a maybe. He is in the emotion band. Above 4.0 there is
little question about his desire and ability to survive: he's
operating on thought, which is aligned with the life static
itself.

TRACK: see time track.

II: see Step II.

UNIVAC: universal automatic computer; an early electronic
computer.

UP SCALE: there is a downward spiral on the tone scale and an
upward spiral. These spirals are marked by decreasing or
increasing awareness. To go up scale one must increase his power
to observe with certainty.

VALENCE: the assumption at the reactive level by one individual
of the characteristics of another individual. An individual may
have a number of valences, which he puts on and off as he might
hats. Often these changes are so marked that an observant person
can notice him dropping one valence and putting on another. The
shift from valence to valence is usually completely outside the
awareness and control of the individual doing so. In other cases
an individual has one valence, not his own, in which he is
thoroughly stuck.

VISIO: the ability to see in facsimile form something one has
seen earlier, so that one sees it again in the same color,
dimension scale, brightness and detail as it was originally
viewed.

WHOLE TRACK: the moment-to-moment record of a person's existence
in this universe in picture and impression form.

WINNIGEE WORKS: an invented factory name used for illustration.

WINNING VALENCE: in the case of the woman beaten by her husband,
the engram contains just two valences. Who won? The husband.
Therefore it is the husband who will be dramatized. She didn't
win, she got hurt. When restimulators are present, the thing to
do is to be the winner, the husband, to talk like him, to say
what he did. Hence, when the woman is restimulated into this
engram by some action she dramatizes the winning valence.

WUMP STREET: an invented street name used for illustration.
